An Alexandria restaurant was the only one from Virginia on the list of 50 across America.
ALEXANDRIA, VA. — While there are undoubtedly plenty of good Southern restaurants to choose from around Virginia, the best can be found in Alexandria. That’s according to Open Table’s new list of 50 Best Southern Restaurants in America 2018.
The list includes restaurants from 14 states and Washington, DC. 10 of them are Southern states, but non-traditional places like New York, Philadelphia, and Illinois grabbed spots on the list too.
The rankings are based on 12 million OpenTable reviews for over 27,000 restaurants in 50 states and DC. Restaurants in the Southern food category with qualifying reviews were eligible for the ranking. The restaurants’ food ratings determined the ranking order.
Alexandria’s own RT’s Restaurant is the only Virginia restaurant claiming a spot on the list. The Mount Vernon Avenue restaurant has been offering authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine for over 30 years.
One Open Table user recently summed it up: “Great New Orleans food and drink, comfortable, charming atmosphere, very good service. Please don’t ever change. What a gem, a true original in the Washington DC area.”
If you haven’t tried RT’s before, an ideal time to try it will be Alexandria Restaurant Week from Aug. 17-26. RT’s will offer a $35 three-course dinner and $22 lunch. It’s one of more than 50 restaurants in Alexandria offering specials for the occasion.
